Who is this newsletter for?

  • First and foremost, this is for people who are interested in improving their finances but who might not know where to begin. Young people, immigrants and hispanohablantes, the working class, anyone who have been excluded or ignored by traditional finance. I hope this project can be useful and accessible to you in your financial journey!

  • Additionally, I hope to make this project thought-provoking and add value for people who may already be more experienced, more financially stable, or who already identify as investors. Those who are open to DIY, active management, and higher-risk, higher total return may find the most alignment with my approach.

Who is Neil?

I am a self-taught investor who has been investing since 2008. I have a degree in Economics. My style of investing is long-term buy-and-hold, focused generally on technology and growth companies, and increasingly on green and climate-friendly companies. As a tech investor, I aim to beat the Nasdaq 100 (ticker QQQ) with more upside and less downside.

I look for asymmetric risk reward scenarios to limit my losses and take worthy risks. I also look for cases where sentiment is widely bullish on universally-loved, high-margin brands to find “easy money” type stocks (for example, think Apple or Tesla). I also look to find quality compounders trading at relatively cheap prices.

In addition to fundamental and technical analysis for individual holdings, I use several tools to gain a holistic understanding of how a portfolio functions over the entire business cycle, since portfolios can be much more than the sum of their parts!
